About: Lula is a member of the Workers’ Party, he previously served as the 35th president from 2003 to 2010.Lula, who comes from a working class background, moved to So Paulo as a young child with his family from Pernambuco. He started working as a metalworker and joined a union as a youngster. After quitting school in the second grade to work and support his family, he did not learn to read until he was ten years old. At the age of eight, he worked as a street vendor in Guarujá. He had a job in So Paulo as a street seller and shoe shiner when he was 12 years old. His first official employment was in a warehouse in 1960, when he was just 14 years old. He began working as a press operator trainee in 1961 while enrolled in a vocational programme at a metallurgical company that made screws.
