About: Traoré Ibrahim He completed his elementary schooling in Bondokuy before moving to Bobo-Dioulasso to enrol in high school, where he earned a reputation for being “silent” and “extremely talented.” He began attending the University of Ouagadougou in 2006 and was a member of the Organization of Muslim Students while there. He earned an honours degree from the university.
In 2009, Traoré enlisted in the Burkinabe army and quickly moved up the ranks. He was reassigned to an infantry battalion in Kaya, a town in northern Burkina Faso, after receiving anti-aircraft training from Morocco. Traoré joined MINUSMA, a United Nations peacekeeping force engaged in the Mali War, after being promoted to lieutenant in 2014. He was listed among the MINUSMA soldiers who “exhibited courage” in 2018 during a significant rebel attacks in the Tombouctou Region. He subsequently returned to Burkina Faso, where he assisted in operations against the escalating jihadist insurgency. Traoré fought in the “Otapuanu offensive” of 2019 and several other counter-insurgency operations in the country’s north. He was promoted to captain in 2020.
