About: Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge is an engineer and Congolese politician from the former Katanga Province. On the day of the Congo River disaster in 2021, his name was announced. On April 12, 2021, he made his cabinet announcement. Lukonde was appointed Minister of Youth, Sports, and Leisure in December 2014, while Joseph Kabila was President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Lukonde had been actively involved in politics as a member of the Avenir du Congo party and was one of the youngest deputies in the National Assembly. Lukonde was appointed Director-General of Gécamines, the biggest mining firm in the DRC and one of the biggest in all of Africa. Also, he served as the SNCC’s deputy general administrator for the Congo National Railway Corporation.
