The first woman to serve as a Judge in India’s Supreme Court was Fathima Beevi. On October 6, 1989, she was appointed. She not only became the first female Supreme Court judge in India but also in all of Asia. The fact that it took nearly 40 years for a woman to be appointed as a Supreme Court judge renders the significance of this accomplishment incalculable on any scale.
