He is known for restoring the Chola hegemony and securing its dominance throughout the Indian Ocean during his time as the most powerful Tamil king in South India. The Brihadisvara Temple, a Shiva-dedicated structure, was erected by Rajaraja at Thanjavur in 1010 CE.
