About: Rodrigo Alberto de Jesús Chaves Robles is a Costa Rican politician and economist. He was previously Minister of Finance during the presidency of Carlos Alvarado Quesada. He graduated from Ohio State University with a B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. in economics. He served as the World Bank’s country director for Indonesia and other American, European, and Asian nations before being appointed to the position of minister.
He received a four-month scholarship from the Harvard University Center for International Development in 1992, just before finishing his Ph.D., to undertake fieldwork in Indonesia on issues of poverty, rural poverty, microenterprise, and medium business. The World Bank gave him a position in exchange for the publication of his findings when he received his degree.
