The Delhi court was under the leadership of Razia Sultana, the first female sultan of India, from the end of 1236 until 1240. She overcame opposition based on her gender and her slave ancestry, making history as the only woman to ever hold the kingdom. She established herself as a just and capable leader during her reign and gained notoriety for her subversive acts, which ranged from dressing like a man to printing coins with her name and likeness on them.
